Edifier W320TN: Design
Each Edifier W320TN earphone weighs only 4 grams, and the total weight of the device is only 50 grams. However, one aspect to note is that the surface of the charging case can be quite slippery, especially in cold winter conditions, which might make it easy to drop. Despite this, the case seems to be drop-resistant, as evidenced by minor marks after an accidental drop.
The case features a status LED on the front and a USB Type-C port for charging. Additionally, there’s a button on the rear of the case, which serves a dual-purpose, enabling multi-pairing and resetting the earbuds.
The hinge on the case is well-constructed, providing a secure closure. The earbuds are held firmly in place inside the case by magnets, ensuring they won’t rattle around when you’re on the move. The charging port connectors for the earbuds are located at the bottom of the case, employing Pogo pin connectors to maintain a snug fit. The case itself stays closed securely, and when open, it remains open without any issues.
Moving on to the earbuds themselves, they are crafted from high-quality plastic with no sharp edges. The half in-ear style is designed for comfort, and users will appreciate the lack of discomfort even after extended use. The stem design not only contributes to the secure fit but also adds to the comfort factor. The earbuds feature charging contacts and a microphone for voice calls at the bottom. Impressively, there are three microphones on each earbud, totaling six microphones in all, and they employ AI algorithms to enhance call quality, effectively filtering out background noise.
The earbuds are equipped with an infrared sensor that detects when they are in your ears, allowing for automatic pause and play functionality. If desired, you can disable this feature. The W320TN features 13mm dynamic drivers for a rich and immersive audio experience.
One unique aspect of these earbuds is the pressure-based touch controls. While these controls prevent accidental touches, they require a bit more force than traditional capacitive touch controls. This can make them less responsive at times, even with adjustments to the pressure sensitivity. Despite this, they do help prevent unwanted commands during wear or sleep.
These earbuds are built to withstand the elements, as they are rated IP54 sweat and dust resistant. Whether you’re caught in the rain or working up a sweat during a workout, the Edifier W320TN can handle it all.
These earbuds offer a comfortable and lightweight fit without the pressure typically associated with in-ear silicone-tipped designs. The secure fit is thanks to the stem design, making them suitable for various activities, including running.
Functions
The accompanying Edifier Connect app enhances the overall experience by providing customization options, including touch control sensitivity adjustments. This feature is particularly useful for preventing accidental touches, ensuring your earbuds respond precisely as you intend.
The app provides various equalizer presets, allowing you to tailor the sound to your preferences. You can choose from options like “Classic,” “Pop,” “Rock,” and more. This customization enhances your listening experience, enabling you to find the perfect sound profile for different genres and situations.
The earbuds’ ANC technology effectively reduces background noise, making them suitable for use in noisy environments like city streets. While they may not match over-ear ANC headphones, their ANC is notable for the open-fit style, adding an extra layer of immersion to your music or calls.
In terms of latency, the Edifier W320TN performs impressively for most use cases. When watching movies or TV shows on streaming platforms like Netflix, the audio syncs well with the actors’ dialogue, ensuring a seamless viewing experience. The slight delay you might encounter during gaming is standard for Bluetooth earbuds and usually goes unnoticed.
The built-in microphones with noise cancellation provide clear voice quality, even in busy, noisy environments. This feature ensures that your calls are heard and understood without interference from background noise.
The headphones operate via Bluetooth 5.3, providing a stable and reliable wireless connection. I had no problems with signal dropouts or interference, even at a maximum distance of 10 meters.
Sound
Sound quality is where the Edifier W320TN truly shines. Equipped with 13mm dynamic drivers that have been finely tuned for this unique style, they deliver a rich and detailed audio experience. The use of the LDAC codec, boasting a high-resolution wireless audio certification, elevates the audio quality significantly. With a data transfer rate of 990 kilobits per second, LDAC offers almost three times the data transmission capability of the SBC codec. Highs become more detailed, vocals sound clearer without being overly harsh, and even the bass retains its power and depth.
However, it’s essential to note that the difference in audio quality largely depends on the source material. If you’re listening to high-bitrate FLAC files or other high-quality audio, you’ll certainly notice the improvement with LDAC. On the other hand, for lower-quality audio like YouTube streams or old, low-bitrate MP3s, the difference may not be as discernible.
One common misconception is that open-fit or half in-ear style earbuds lack bass, but the Edifier W320TN defies that notion. These earbuds deliver powerful bass despite their comfortable and open-fit design.
One of the most impressive features of these earbuds is their adaptive ANC technology. The W320TN boasts six microphones that work in harmony to monitor your surroundings and tailor the noise cancellation accordingly. Whether you’re on a noisy commute or in a crowded place, the earbuds adapt to minimize unwanted sounds, ensuring an immersive audio experience.
Additionally, the inclusion of AI noise cancellation for the microphones enhances call quality significantly, making sure your voice comes through clearly even in challenging environments.
Battery
Despite the impressive audio quality and overall performance of the Edifier W320TN earbuds, one significant drawback lies in their battery life. With LDAC and active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled, the battery life is significantly reduced.
In this mode, you might only get around 1 hour and 30 minutes of playback on a single charge, which can be quite limiting for longer listening sessions or commutes.
However, there is also a positive aspect. By switching to the SBC codec and turning off the noise canceling feature, battery life improves significantly, offering a more respectable 5 hours and 30 minutes of playback on a single charge. The charging case provides an additional 22 hours of battery life.
Edifier W320TN: Conclusion
The Edifier W320TN earbuds offer a compelling audio experience, challenging preconceptions about open-fit earbuds. With LDAC support and impressive audio quality, they provide a comfortable and enjoyable listening experience.
