LG Gram SuperSlim Review: Incredibly thin and light laptop
The LG Gram SuperSlim is an impressive laptop that lives up to its name with its slim and lightweight design. Weighing around 990g and measuring just 10.99mm thick, it is one of the thinnest and most portable laptops the company has ever offered. Its sleek and stylish appearance makes it an attractive option for those seeking a modern and elegant device.
One of the standout features of the Gram SuperSlim is its 15.6-inch FHD OLED display. OLED technology offers stunning visuals with rich colors and deep blacks, providing an immersive viewing experience. The laptop boasts 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, ensuring accurate and vibrant colors for multimedia and creative work. Moreover, the VESA DisplayHDR certification further enhances the display’s capabilities, offering improved brightness and contrast for HDR content.
The laptop’s magnesium alloy body not only contributes to its lightweight design but also adds durability. It has undergone rigorous testing and has successfully passed the US Department of Defense’s “MIL-STD-810H” durability test.

Design
The LG Gram SuperSlim is a laptop designed with a focus on lightweight portability and a sleek, thin profile. The laptop’s construction consists of magnesium alloy and glass, which contributes to its lightness. However, the trade-off for achieving such a lightweight design is that there is some flex in both the display and keyboard deck. As a result, there might be occasional creaking sounds when pressure is applied to these areas. Despite this, it’s important to note that the build quality, although not as solid as heavier metal constructions, is not compromised in terms of durability. The laptops are rated with MIL-810H Military Standard, ensuring that they can withstand various environmental conditions and rough handling.
While the build quality may not be a standout feature, it doesn’t feel cheap either. The LG Gram SuperSlim is impressively thin, measuring only 0.43 inches (less than 11 mm) in thickness, making it the thinnest laptop ever made by LG and one of the thinnest overall.
The slim design, however, comes with some sacrifices. The port selection is limited, and traditional USB Type-A ports are not present. Instead, it features two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the left side and a USB4 40Gbps port (not Thunderbolt certified) on the right side. There is also a headphone jack on the right side.
The keyboard comfort is another aspect that experiences a compromise due to the slim design. The keys have extremely shallow travel, reminiscent of the criticized “butterfly” keyboard used in older MacBook Air models. While the keys are not wobbly or mushy, they lack the snappy feedback of deeper-travel keyboards. The keyboard does offer two-level backlighting, providing convenience when typing in low-light environments.
The SuperSlim’s width allows it to accommodate a numeric keypad beside the keyboard. However, to make room for the number pad, the Backspace and Tab keys are slightly shortened. The rest of the keys are full-size, except for the half-height cursor arrow keys. A taller 16:10 aspect ratio screen could have allowed more space below the keyboard for a larger touchpad, which is one area where the SuperSlim might feel undersized.
Nevertheless, the touchpad still performs well with its smooth and accurate response, complemented by a firm, yet comfortable click action.
Display
The LG Gram SuperSlim boasts a remarkable non-touch OLED screen as one of its standout features. The 15.6-inch display delivers exceptional contrast, providing inky blacks, bright whites, and rich, vivid colors. With 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 palette, the colors appear true to life and captivating. The brightness of the screen is also commendable, measured at an impressive 415 nits in testing, making it suitable for use in various lighting conditions.
The OLED technology’s self-emissive nature is what sets this display apart. Each pixel has its own light source, allowing for individual control over the illumination. As a result, the screen can achieve true blacks by turning off the light for specific pixels, enhancing contrast and delivering a stunning visual experience. The vibrant colors and high contrast make images and content pop, contributing to an immersive viewing experience.
However, despite its excellent performance, one area where the display falls short is its resolution. The 1080p resolution of the 15.6-inch screen might not match the sharpness of some other high-end laptops, such as the 15.3-inch MacBook Air with its 2,880 x 1,864-pixel resolution. As a result, text and images on the LG Gram SuperSlim may appear somewhat blurry and pixelated around the edges. This can be a disappointment, especially considering the laptop’s price range, as higher resolutions are becoming more common in premium devices.
Nevertheless, the OLED panel still manages to impress with its vibrant and true-to-life colors, making it a joy to view multimedia content and graphics on the device. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is well-suited for watching movies, but it might not be the ideal choice for productivity and creative work, where taller 16:10 and squarer 3:2 ratios are gaining popularity. These alternative ratios provide more vertical space, allowing for increased visibility of text in documents and more content in webpages without the need for constant scrolling.
Webcam and Sound
The LG Gram SuperSlim comes equipped with a 1080p webcam, offering a higher resolution than the more common 720p cameras found in many laptops. However, despite the upgrade in resolution, the webcam’s performance may not be as impressive as expected. The image quality tends to appear grainy, and the colors are not accurately represented, resulting in overly red skin tones. While it might be an improvement over generic 720p webcams, it falls short compared to higher-quality webcams available in other devices.
On the positive side, the webcam does offer IR face recognition for Windows Hello, a convenient feature that allows users to log in without having to type a password or PIN. This adds a layer of security and streamlines the login process, making it a convenient addition to the laptop.
In terms of audio, the LG Gram SuperSlim is equipped with a pair of 2-watt speakers. However, the sound produced by these speakers is described as thin and tinny, lacking the richness and depth found in higher-quality audio systems.
To improve the audio experience, users may need to rely on external speakers or headphones when using the LG Gram SuperSlim for multimedia or entertainment purposes. Connecting headphones can offer a more immersive and enjoyable audio experience, especially when watching movies, playing games, or listening to music.
Performance
The LG Gram SuperSlim impresses with its powerful hardware configuration, making it a capable and efficient performer for day-to-day tasks and demanding applications. It is equipped with an Intel Core i7-1360P processor, featuring 12 cores and 16 threads, providing excellent processing power for multitasking and handling resource-intensive applications. To complement the powerful processor, the laptop comes with at least 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, ensuring smooth performance and quick data access.
In your specific model, the impressive 32GB of RAM and the massive 2TB SSD further elevate the laptop’s performance, making it well-suited for handling heavy workloads and large files with ease. This configuration choice offers ample memory for multitasking and plenty of storage space for storing files, software, and media.
In day-to-day use, the LG Gram SuperSlim has proven to be reliable and capable. It can handle tasks like running Photoshop and other image editing software smoothly, even when combined with video calls. While multitasking across three displays may lead to some minor jitteriness, this is not uncommon for slim and lightweight laptops, and overall, it performs admirably.
When compared to other laptops with similar specifications, the LG Gram SuperSlim performs well in benchmarks and real-life scenarios. However, one peculiar observation is that its performance in PCMark 10 on battery power yielded lower results compared to other laptops, including those with AMD processors that are typically more affected by running on battery. Nonetheless, this anomaly does not seem to have a significant impact on real-life performance, as the laptop continues to perform well under regular usage while on battery power.
Whether you’re using it for productivity tasks, content creation, or light gaming, this laptop’s powerful configuration ensures that it can handle a variety of tasks with ease, making it a versatile and dependable companion for users on the go.
Battery life
The battery life of the LG Gram SuperSlim is an aspect that can greatly vary depending on individual usage patterns and settings. As expected, the laptop’s battery performance is influenced by factors such as installed programs, display settings, and the type of tasks being performed.
On the first day with the laptop, without many demanding programs installed and with the “Make OLED characters clearer” feature turned on, the battery lasted an impressive 8 hours and 7 minutes. However, as more demanding programs like Photoshop were installed and changes were made to the setup, the battery life may have been affected.
In more intensive usage scenarios, such as with all programs fully set up, the “Make OLED characters clearer” feature disabled, and a combination of video calls and Photoshop use, the battery life decreased to a minimum of 4 hours and 36 minutes. This kind of usage can be particularly taxing on the battery, especially when engaging in resource-intensive tasks like video calling and image editing.
As for general usage and day-to-day tasks, the LG Gram SuperSlim offers a satisfactory battery life. Under normal usage conditions, with brightness set to 30%, battery saver enabled at 20% battery, and power mode set to Balanced, users can expect decent battery performance for everyday tasks.
Additionally, during a usual YouTube video playback test, with brightness and volume set at 50% and battery saver disabled, the LG Gram SuperSlim demonstrated impressive longevity, lasting 11 hours, 9 minutes, and 13 seconds. This indicates that for less demanding activities like media consumption, the laptop’s battery can last for an extended period.
Conclusion
The LG Gram SuperSlim is an excellent option for users who prioritize portability and a large display. If you desire an extremely thin and lightweight laptop that still offers a spacious screen, this laptop fits the bill perfectly. The OLED display provides a fantastic visual experience, making it ideal for watching movies and videos with stunning colors and contrast. Moreover, the laptop’s performance is impressive, handling various tasks like reading, researching, and typing with ease.
However, one potential drawback is the price tag of $1900. Some users might find it hard to justify this cost, especially considering that the laptop features a Full HD 60Hz display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. At this price point, users may expect a higher-resolution display or a more modern aspect ratio, which can be found in other laptops on the market.
Nonetheless, despite the pricing concern and its somewhat awkward position within LG’s own lineup, the LG Gram SuperSlim remains a solid and impressive laptop. Its combination of portability, large display, excellent performance, and overall versatility make it a fantastic choice, especially for users who prioritize mobility and enjoy an outstanding visual experience. If portability is your primary concern, the LG Gram SuperSlim is definitely worth considering.
