Unboxing

Once you unbox the projector, you’ll find the standard power cable, HDMI cables, audio adapter, as well as cleaning supplies and a small screwdriver.
Deerfamy A89 also comes with a remote control. The remote control has directional arrows for easy navigation, an OK button for selection, a power button, a Home button for quick access to the main menu, a mute button, and a return to menu button for smooth operation. Volume controls are included to adjust audio output, and dedicated plus and minus focus buttons allow users to fine-tune the image to their liking. The source button provides quick access to various input options, increasing the projector’s versatility.
Deerfamy A89: Design
The Deerfamy A89 is a compact and user-friendly projector that boasts a simple yet elegant design. Its front panel features a lens cap for protection and a remote control sensor.
The projector is quite small and can be easily lifted with one hand using the nice leather handle on top. You’ll also find power and focus buttons on the top of the projector for easy operation.
Ventilation is thoughtfully incorporated on the side to ensure optimal performance and prevent overheating during extended use. All the necessary ports are located on the rear panel.The inclusion of a 3.5 mm headphone jack, HDMI port, and two USB ports adds to the projector’s versatility, accommodating a range of devices for seamless connectivity.
A detachable dust filter is a practical addition, contributing to the maintenance of the device by preventing dust particles from affecting image quality. The remote control sensor on the back ensures that users can conveniently control the projector from a distance.
At the center on the bottom, there’s a mount for those who prefer a stationary setup. This feature allows users to either attach the projector to a tripod for flexible positioning or mount it to a ceiling for a more permanent installation.
Settings
Navigating the home screen reveals a straightforward layout, making it one of the more user-friendly projectors in its category. The home screen offers convenient shortcuts to various functions, including Media, HDMI, DLNA, settings, AirPlay, Mirrorcast, Wi-Fi, and support.
One notable feature is the inclusion of focus adjustments directly on the remote control. This makes it easy for users to fine-tune the image without having to navigate through menus. Bluetooth connectivity is another welcome addition, providing the option to use wireless headphones or external speakers for an enhanced audio experience.
In the settings menu, users have access to a range of customization options. Network settings, color temperature adjustments, noise reduction, picture mode, sound mode, and other typical settings are available.
Keystone correction is easily adjustable, accommodating different projection angles and ensuring a well-aligned image. Finding the keystone adjustment option may take some research, however, since it’s located on a separate Options page rather than in the main display settings. The projector supports various picture modes, with the “Standard” mode offering a balanced and pleasing visual experience for most content.
Pictures and sound
Having the Deerfamy A89 setup, one of the immediate highlights is its impressive brightness. The projector is capable of producing a vibrant and well-defined image, making it suitable for use even in environments with ambient light. While it performs admirably with lights on, the visuals truly shine when all lights are turned off, providing an optimal cinematic experience.
When it comes to screen quality, the Deerfamy A89 exceeds expectations, delivering sharp and clear text. Although I haven’t done any specific resolution tests, I believe the projector’s resolution is 1920 x 1080. Connecting a streaming device provides access to a wide range of apps, making it ideal for enjoying movies and TV shows. The screen quality on this projector surpasses many others in its price range, offering a more immersive and enjoyable viewing experience.
The built-in speakers, while not overpowering, are deemed sufficient for small to medium-sized rooms. While a bit more bass could enhance the audio experience. For those who want to connect the projector to an external sound system, an RCA adapter is provided. The fan noise, while noticeable, I find acceptable.
Games
When it comes to gaming, the Deerfamy A89 projector provides a relatively smooth gaming experience, especially in retro games and mobile games.
It’s worth noting that when I tested more demanding games like Rocket League, I did experience a bit more lag while playing. I attribute this to the fast-paced nature of Rocket League, recognizing that the level of responsiveness may vary depending on the specific game. Despite this observation, I would argue that performance is quite good for a projector in this category.
The ability to connect an Xbox controller to the iPad and play games on a large screen adds an extra layer of convenience and enjoyment to the gaming experience.
Deerfamy A89: Conclusion
The Deerfamy A89 has proven to be a delightful surprise, surpassing expectations, especially when considering its compact size and affordable price range.
Its impressive screen quality, unexpectedly loudspeakers, and budget-friendly price point make it one of the better options within its class. While it may lack some of the more advanced optical features found in higher-end projectors, it’s essential to consider that these features often come with a hefty price tag.
