The EarFun Air 2 boasts an impressive array of features typically found in higher-priced models. From LDAC codec support and Hi-Res certification to noise-canceling microphones for crystal-clear calls, these earbuds are packed with upscale wireless technologies designed to enhance the user experience.

However, one notable omission is the absence of active noise cancellation (ANC). EarFun Air 2: Design

The EarFun Air 2 presents itself as a straightforward pair of in-ear headphones, adhering to the standard stick design typical of budget-friendly models. Available in a single color variant predominantly black, with subtle gray accents sporting the EarFun logo, these earbuds maintain a minimalist aesthetic.

Crafted primarily from plastic, the EarFun Air 2 doesn’t exude a premium feel, which is expected given its price point. There’s a possibility that the matte black surfaces of the charging case may exhibit signs of wear over time, although this is a common occurrence with materials of this nature.

Weighing in at 45 grams for both the headphones and the charging case combined, the EarFun Air 2 doesn’t impose a significant burden. Each earbud weighs around 4.5 grams, slightly heavier than average due to the absence of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology. However, this weight remains well within the comfort threshold for extended usage.

The charging case, while not particularly remarkable, serves its purpose adequately. Notably, EarFun has reinforced the lid with stronger magnets, addressing concerns about its durability seen in previous models. Additionally, the case supports wireless charging, adding a level of convenience to the overall user experience.

One standout feature of the EarFun Air 2 is its IPX7 rating, denoting its impressive water resistance. This certification ensures protection against various moisture-related hazards, such as rain, sweat, and accidental splashes. Even if the earbuds happen to take an unexpected plunge into water, they’re designed to withstand such situations, provided they’re not submerged for prolonged periods.

Features

Right out of the box you have control over everything you own. With intuitive touch controls, users have seamless access to various functions such as play, pause, track skipping, and volume adjustments without the need to navigate through a separate app.

In addition to touch customization, the EarFun app offers a range of other useful functions, including adjustable equalizer settings, enabling or disabling game mode for low latency, toggling dual device connection, firmware updates, and even locating your earbuds via a beep sound.

EarFun Air 2 uses Bluetooth 5.3 technology. This cutting-edge Bluetooth version enables multi-point connection capabilities, allowing users to connect the earbuds to more than one device simultaneously. This flexibility is particularly useful for individuals who frequently switch between devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops, without the hassle of disconnecting and reconnecting each time.

Furthermore, the EarFun Air 2 is certified with Hi-Res Wireless and boasts LDAC support, elevating the audio experience to new heights. With support for high-quality codecs, users can enjoy superior sound quality with enhanced clarity and detail, making every listening session immersive and enjoyable.

Passive noise canceling

The EarFun Air 2 stands out as a budget-friendly option that prioritizes essential features while omitting active noise cancellation (ANC). While some may view this as a compromise, the decision to focus on passive noise canceling proves to be a practical choice.

Passive noise canceling relies on creating a tight seal in the ear canal with the ear tips, effectively blocking out external noise without the need for additional electronic processing. At 50% volume or higher, the earbuds excel at isolating the listener from their surroundings, ensuring an uninterrupted listening experience.

To facilitate a customized fit, the EarFun Air 2 includes four sets of silicone ear tips in the box, ensuring users can find the perfect size for their ears. This not only enhances passive noise canceling but also ensures optimal comfort and audio performance.

Sound quality

The sound quality in EarFun Air 2 is ensured by a large speaker with a diameter of 10 mm. Unlike previous iterations, these earbuds exhibit a refined sound signature that diverges from the typical EarFun sound profile. While maintaining a dynamic sound, the emphasis seems to be on enhancing the midrange and treble frequencies, rather than overwhelming bass presence.

Despite this shift, the EarFun Air 2 doesn’t skimp on bass. With a notable punch and precision, the bass performance is impressive across various genres, from metal and rock to pop and hip-hop. What sets it apart is its ability to deliver impactful bass without overshadowing other frequencies, resulting in a balanced and clean sound reproduction.

The midrange is subtly boosted, ensuring that both male and female vocals stand out prominently. Whether you’re listening to music or watching movies or TV shows, the dialogue remains clear and intelligible, enhancing the overall listening experience.

Where the EarFun Air 2 truly shines is in its treble performance. With a bright and lively sound, the treble adds a layer of vibrancy to the audio without veering into harshness or causing fatigue during extended listening sessions. This balanced treble experience ensures a pleasing listening across various genres and content types.

Despite offering EQ customization options, the EarFun Air 2 maintains its consumer-friendly sound signature, with slightly boosted bass and vibrant treble characteristics. Even with adjustments, the inherent sound profile remains intact, providing consistency and reliability in audio reproduction.

Furthermore, the EarFun Air 2 impresses with its expansive soundstage and precise sound imaging. Whether you’re immersed in music, movies, or games, the earbuds excel at creating a spatially rich audio environment, allowing you to accurately pinpoint the direction of sounds with ease.

Call quality

When it comes to making phone calls, the EarFun Air 2 doesn’t disappoint. With four microphones strategically positioned to capture and filter out background noise, these earbuds excel at delivering clear and intelligent voice calls, even in noisy environments. While it may not match the performance of dedicated ANC headphones, the EarFun Air 2 provides a reliable solution for everyday communication needs.

Battery life

The EarFun Air 2 stands out with its impressive battery performance. The earbuds themselves are equipped with a 40 mAh battery, while the charging case houses a larger 400 mAh battery.

Under regular usage conditions, the EarFun Air 2 delivers an 9 hours of playback time on a single charge for the earbuds. Additionally, the charging case provides an additional 40 hours of battery life.

However, when using LDAC mode for high-resolution audio streaming, there is a slight decrease in battery life. In this mode, the earbuds offer approximately 5.5 hours of playback time, with the charging case providing around 23 additional hours. While LDAC mode enhances audio quality, users should be mindful of its impact on battery consumption and plan accordingly.

Furthermore, the EarFun Air 2 incorporates a fast charge feature, providing users with an additional two hours of playback time with just a quick 10-minute charge. The inclusion of a USB-C cable ensures convenient charging options for users who prefer traditional wired charging methods.

EarFun Air 2: Conclusion

In my opinion, the EarFun Air 2 are a good choice in the budget earbuds category, offering exceptional value without compromising on core features. While it may lack active noise canceling and smart sensors, I find these to be minor concessions given the compelling package it delivers.

What truly sets the EarFun Air 2 apart is its impressive battery life, lasting you throughout the day without needing frequent recharging. Moreover, its IPX7 rating ensures peace of mind, allowing you to use them in various environments without worrying about water damage.
