The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) is a notable Windows convertible that offers a spacious display, impressive features, and solid performance. Although it may not have the same level of extravagance as the Yoga 9i, it still delivers a fantastic user experience.

The standout feature of the Yoga 7i 16 is its massive 16-inch screen, which provides ample space for multitasking and media consumption.

Under the hood, the Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 is equipped with an Intel Core i7-1355U CPU, which delivers impressive processing power. This ensures smooth performance and responsiveness, allowing you to handle demanding tasks, such as running multiple applications simultaneously or editing large files, with ease.

While the Yoga 7i 16 may be on the heavier side, it compensates with its user-friendly design. The rounded corners not only add a touch of elegance but also make it comfortable to hold. The laptop’s port selection is also commendable, offering a range of connectivity options for various peripherals and devices. Moreover, Lenovo’s attention to detail extends to the keyboard, which provides a great typing experience, making it ideal for extended periods of productivity.

Unlike its more premium counterpart, the Yoga 9i, which comes with a higher price tag of $1,700, the Yoga 7i 16 is available for just $900. This makes it an attractive option for individuals seeking a versatile and productive 2-in-1 device without breaking the bank. Whether you’re a student, a professional, or an everyday user, the Yoga 7i 16 offers great value for its price.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023): Design

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) is a 16-inch Windows 11 convertible that offers a great user experience despite its lack of compactness and portability. While its size and weight may not come as a surprise for a 16-inch Windows device, the feel of the Yoga 7i in your hands is impressive.

Lenovo’s Comfort Edge design, which features rounded corners, sets the Yoga 7i apart. Unlike other laptops with sharper edges, the rounded corners of the Yoga 7i feel comfortable and pleasant to the touch.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

However, it’s worth noting that the Yoga 7i is quite heavy, weighing in at 2 kg. This can be attributed to the aluminum materials used in its construction. Comparatively, other 16-inch devices like the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 and the HP Spectre x360 16 are also on the heavier side, weighing 2.1 kg and 2.15 kg, respectively. It’s a common trait among 16-inch convertibles.

The weight of the device becomes noticeable when opening the lid, as the Yoga 7i is back-heavy. It requires both hands to open, and the presence of a notch for the webcam provides a convenient grip to assist with the process.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

Despite its weight, the Yoga 7i impresses with its slim profile. Measuring just 1.7 cm in thickness, it is thinner than other 16-inch devices such as the HP Spectre x360, which measures 1.98 cm. This slimness accentuates the rounded edges and enhances the laptop’s sleek appearance.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

One notable aspect of the Yoga 7i is its excellent port selection. The left side features an HDMI jack, two USB-C ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the right side provides two USB-A ports and a microSD card slot. This comprehensive range of ports ensures convenient connectivity for various devices and peripherals.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023): Display

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) is equipped with a 16-inch display that features a modern 16:10 aspect ratio, which has become common among Windows convertibles. The lower-end option offers a 1920×1200 resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate, while there is also a 2.5K (2560×1600) resolution option available. The spacious 16-inch screen provides ample room for multitasking and working with various applications side by side.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

One of the major drawbacks of the display is its color accuracy and overall brightness. The screen appears dim, and when watching videos on platforms like YouTube, the colors may not be as vibrant as desired. This is particularly disappointing considering that a convertible device like this should prioritize multimedia experiences.

When testing the display with a Spyder 5 Elite colorimeter, the results revealed poor performance. It covers only 63% of the sRGB color gamut, 47% of Adobe RGB, 47% of P3, and 45% of NTSC. The maximum brightness measured was 264 nits, and the contrast ratio was approximately 1,220:1. These numbers fall below the ideal standards. Generally, a score of around 70% is considered acceptable for Adobe RGB and DCI-P3, but the Yoga 7i 16 (2023) falls significantly short in sRGB coverage. The contrast ratio and brightness levels are also relatively low, with 300 nits being the standard benchmark.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

Lenovo has stated that the unit supports pen input with the $60 Lenovo Precision Pen 2. However, it’s worth noting that some models may not come with the pen included.

The webcam on the Yoga 7i 16 is a pleasant surprise. It features a modern 1080p resolution and a typical 2MP sensor, delivering satisfactory video quality for video calls and online meetings.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023): Keyboard and trackpad

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) offers a delightful keyboard experience, which remains unchanged from previous generations. The inclusion of a numpad on the right side of the keyboard enhances productivity, particularly when working with financial spreadsheets in applications like Excel.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

The keycaps on the keyboard feature Lenovo’s signature curved shape, contributing to improved typing accuracy. Typing on the keyboard is quiet, and the keys have a satisfying amount of travel with consistent resistance, ensuring a pleasant typing experience.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

Unfortunately, the trackpad on the Yoga 7i 16 falls short of expectations. It feels thin, plasticky, and lacks the smoothness one would hope for. However, since this is a touchscreen device, many users may opt to use the touchscreen interface instead, mitigating the impact of the subpar trackpad.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

On a positive note, the speakers above the keyboard compensate for any shortcomings. With dual 2W user-facing tweeters, the audio experience is impressive. The speakers deliver lifelike sound quality, and when combined with the Dolby Access app, users can further customize audio profiles to suit their preferences.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023): Performance

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) is equipped with a capable 15W Intel Core i7-1355U CPU and 16GB of RAM. This CPU features two performance cores and eight efficiency cores, with the performance cores running at up to 5.0GHz and the efficiency core reaching speeds of up to 3.7GHz. According to Intel, this new CPU offers a 10% productivity boost compared to the previous generation 12th-generation CPUs.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

In terms of basic productivity tasks, the Yoga 7i performs well. Microsoft Edge handles multiple tabs without any issues, and Microsoft Excel can handle data-heavy spreadsheets without freezing. Running Photoshop and installing software also worked fine, although the performance may be slightly slower, with exports taking around 4 seconds per photo.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

However, the Yoga 7i struggles with more demanding tasks due to its aging Intel Iris Xe graphics. Gaming performance is not ideal, as expected from a laptop with an integrated GPU. Playing games like Grand Theft Auto IV at even the lowest settings results in a struggle to maintain a stable frame rate, averaging around 20 frames per second. Lighter titles like CS:GO perform better but still fall short, achieving around 30FPS on medium settings. It’s important to note that the Yoga 7i is not designed for gaming or video editing tasks. If such tasks are required, it is advisable to lower settings and adjust expectations accordingly.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

On the battery life front, the Yoga 7i exceeds expectations. With the Windows 11 power slider set to power efficiency mode, it can last up to approximately eight hours and 30 minutes on a single charge. Even under more demanding conditions with the power slider set to best performance, the battery life holds up reasonably well, providing around five hours of usage. It’s worth noting that actual battery life may vary depending on individual usage patterns. However, the dimmer screen of the Yoga 7i helps contribute to extended battery life.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023): Conclusion

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) is a Windows convertible that offers a large 16-inch display and a powerful Intel Core i7-1355U CPU. While it may not be the most compact or portable option, it makes up for it with its comfortable keyboard and excellent productivity performance.

The keyboard is a standout feature, providing a satisfying typing experience with its curved keycaps and quiet operation. The inclusion of a numpad is a welcome addition for those who work extensively with numbers and spreadsheets. However, the trackpad falls short, lacking the desired smoothness and quality, which may lead users to rely more on the touchscreen functionality.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

The display, while spacious, disappoints in terms of color accuracy and brightness. The lower-end resolution option may not provide the vibrant visuals expected from a convertible device designed for multimedia experiences. However, the webcam offers a pleasant 1080p video quality for online communication.

In terms of performance, the Yoga 7i 16 excels in basic productivity tasks, handling applications like Microsoft Edge and Excel with ease. However, its integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics limit its gaming capabilities, making it unsuitable for gaming or resource-intensive video editing.

Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) Review

On the positive side, the Yoga 7i 16 delivers decent battery life, with around 8 hours and 30 minutes of usage on a single charge. The power efficiency mode further extends battery life, although it may result in reduced performance.
