Unboxing
TOZO has maintained its signature packaging style with the TOZO NC7. The box is elegantly designed in classic white, featuring a clear image of the model on the cover.
Upon opening the box, you’ll find a thoughtfully organized assortment of essential components, neatly placed beneath a sliding lid. Here’s a breakdown of what awaits you inside: TOZO NC7 Earbuds, Wireless Charging Case, USB-C Charging Cable, Eartips (6 Pairs) and User Manual.
TOZO NC7: Design
The TOZO NC7 True Wireless Earbuds available only in black. Everything about these earbuds is small and streamlined, from the tiny packaging to the earbuds themselves. In fact, their size might remind you of the Jabra Elite earbuds.
The design of the NC7 earbuds is elegant and practical. They sport a classic earplug-like shape with smooth, well-crafted edges. The outer part of the earbuds is constructed from matte plastic, giving them a modern and understated look. The portion adjacent to the ear is made from glossy plastic, adding a touch of sophistication.
On the front panel of both earbuds, you’ll find the “TOZO” logo tastefully placed. Just below this logo, there are visible microphone openings, indicating that these earbuds are designed with environmental awareness in mind. They offer moisture and sweat protection, making them suitable for workouts and outdoor activities.
When you look at the part of the earbuds that rests against your ear, you’ll notice high-quality silicone ear pads. These pads are comfortable and don’t exert excessive pressure on your ear canals. To ensure you wear the correct earbud in each ear, there are clear “L” and “R” markings. Below these markings, you’ll find the gold-plated charging contacts, and in between them is the sensor responsible for releasing the earbuds. Finally, at the top, there’s a noise-cancelling microphone, which contributes to an immersive audio experience by reducing external noise.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the charging case. True to TOZO’s minimalist design ethos, the charging case is compact and can easily fit in the palm of your hand. There’s a small gap on the front of the case that allows for easy lifting of the lid. Just below this gap, you’ll find four LED battery charge indicators, keeping you informed about the case’s battery status.
The top of the lid proudly displays the “TOZO” logo, adding a touch of branding to the case’s otherwise clean and simple appearance. On the bottom, you’ll find essential technical information. Inside the case, there are clearly marked spots for the left and right earbuds, ensuring that you place them correctly for charging. The inner surfaces of the cells are glossy, while the surrounding surface has a matte finish, preventing unsightly fingerprint smudges.
On the back of the case, you’ll find the USB Type-C connector for charging, providing a modern and convenient way to power up your earbuds.
Control
The TOZO NC7 True Wireless Earbuds come equipped with touch controls, and I’m delighted to inform you that these controls offer a comprehensive range of functionalities. With just a few taps, you can easily manage your music playback, volume, and even toggle noise-canceling settings. Here’s a breakdown of what you can do with these touch controls:
Play/Pause: A simple tap on either earbud allows you to start or pause your music playback.
Track Navigation: You have the ability to skip tracks forward or go backward in your playlist, providing convenient control over your music selection.
Volume Adjustment: Need to raise or lower the volume? The touch controls let you do that with ease.
Noise Canceling: You can activate or deactivate the noise-canceling feature at your convenience, customizing your listening experience based on your surroundings.
Noise Canceling
Now, let’s dive into the noise-canceling capabilities of the TOZO NC7. While it’s important to keep in mind that these earbuds are priced at just $50, they don’t quite compete with industry giants like Sony or Bose in terms of noise cancellation. However, they do hold their own, especially when it comes to reducing lower-frequency sounds like engine noises and the hum of air conditioning units. These earbuds can provide you with a quieter, more immersive listening experience in everyday situations.
However, it’s worth noting that the noise-canceling performance may not be as effective when it comes to blocking out people’s voices or conversations happening around you. In such scenarios, you might find that they perform similarly to regular earbuds.
The transparency mode on the TOZO NC7 earbuds is a handy feature as well. It allows you to hear your surroundings while wearing the earbuds, and it generally provides a fairly natural listening experience. This mode is particularly useful for staying aware of your environment or engaging in conversations without the need to remove your earbuds.
If you plan on using these earbuds for phone calls, you’ll be pleased to know that the built-in microphones do a commendable job. TOZO has designed these earbuds with a combination of internal and external microphones to focus on your voice while reducing background noise effectively. This setup ensures that your voice is clear during calls, even in noisier environments.
Sound quality
Let’s dive into the sound quality of the TOZO NC7, featuring what TOZO calls “Orijex 2.0.” This sound technology aims to enhance the midrange or vocals, and I must say, it delivers some of the best midrange performance I’ve encountered on any pair of true wireless earbuds. The vocals truly shine and stand out, feeling as though they’re right there in front of you. Regardless of whether it’s a male or female vocalist, the TOZO NC7 offers remarkable clarity and detail in the midrange, making your music feel incredibly immersive.
But here’s the beauty of these earbuds – they don’t compromise on the bass or treble either. The treble is crisp and bright, infusing your music with energy. At times, it may even sound a touch harsh, but this characteristic complements the overall sound profile perfectly. Why? Because these earbuds also pack a punch when it comes to bass.
Out of the box, the bass is already pretty tight, with just the right amount of looseness to give it that satisfying subwoofer-like feel. However, if you’re like me and enjoy a bit more oomph in the bass department, the TOZO NC7 offers a solution. You can use the app to activate the “bass plus” feature, which adds a bit more depth and punch to the bass without compromising the clarity of the mids and treble. This feature contributes to a dynamic and engaging listening experience that sets these earbuds apart.
To put their sound quality to the test, I even compared the TOZO NC7 against more expensive earbuds from Sony and Bose. To my surprise, these budget-friendly earbuds held their own and even outperformed their pricier counterparts in certain aspects.
When it comes to the soundstage and sound imaging, the TOZO NC7 shines once again. The bass carries significant impact but still allows for a sense of spaciousness, creating an open and immersive listening experience. You can easily pinpoint the direction from which sounds are coming, thanks to the accurate sound imaging these earbuds provide.
Battery life
The earbuds themselves boast an impressive battery life of 10.5 hours on a single charge. However, in real-world testing scenarios with high volume and noise-canceling active, you can expect approximately 8 hours of continuous use.
The charging case can recharge the earbuds multiple times, providing up to 32 hours of additional power. In practical terms, you can expect over 20 hours of use, making it an excellent choice for long trips, commutes, or extended listening sessions. Keep in mind that the manufacturer’s specified working time is based on a 60% volume level and without noise-canceling, so adjusting your settings can further extend battery life.
When using a USB Type-C cable to charge the case fully, it will take approximately 1.8 hours. The TOZO NC7 also supports fast charging. If you prefer the convenience of wireless charging, it’s essential to consider the power output of your wireless charging station. Officially, it’s estimated to take around 2.5 hours to fully charge the case wirelessly.
One of the standout features is the rapid charging of the earbuds themselves. In just 15 minutes inside the charging case, you can gain over an hour of full TOZO NC7 usage, complete with noise cancellation and a high volume level.
TOZO NC7: Conclusion
Despite its affordable price point, these earbuds deliver a compelling combination of features, sound quality, and convenience.
The TOZO NC7 earbuds feature active noise canceling, touch controls, customizable sound, extended battery life, and a comfortable fit. They prove that you don’t need to break the bank for quality wireless earbuds. Whether you’re using them for music, calls, or blocking out distractions, the TOZO NC7 is a compelling choice that punches above its weight in the budget true wireless earbud market.
