The ETOE E3 Pro offers a cost-effective solution for those seeking a home theater experience in a limited space. Despite its budget-friendly price, this projector offers impressive features to enhance your viewing pleasure.
One of the features of the ETOE E3 Pro is its 1080p resolution, which ensures sharp and detailed imagery. Whether you’re watching movies, TV shows, or playing video games, you can expect a clear and immersive visual experience.
To complement the visual quality, the projector is equipped with two 10W speakers. One speaker is positioned forward, while the other is directed backward. This configuration helps to deliver a balanced audio output, filling the room with sound and enhancing the overall viewing experience.
Temperature management is crucial for projectors, as they can generate a significant amount of heat during operation. The ETOE E3 Pro tackles this issue effectively with the aid of two cooling fans. These fans ensure that the projector maintains a suitable temperature for extended use, while the noise level remains acceptable, minimizing any potential distractions.
Auto-focus and auto-keystone correction are two highly desirable features in a projector, and the ETOE E3 Pro delivers on both fronts. The auto-focus capability ensures that the projected image remains clear and sharp without the need for manual adjustments. Additionally, the auto-keystone correction feature compensates for any distortion caused by an uneven projection surface, resulting in a correctly aligned and well-proportioned image.
One aspect of the ETOE E3 Pro is its reliance on an external Android box. This setup allows for flexibility, as you can potentially replace the included mini computer with a more powerful option if desired. This feature provides the opportunity to upgrade the device’s performance and customize its functionality to suit your specific needs.
ETOE E3 Pro: Video Review
Design
The ETOE E3 Pro is a compact projector, measuring 15 x 13 x 11 cm. Its body is made of plastic, not metal, which is expected given its budget.
The ETOE E3 Pro is lightweight, weighing in at 1.62 kg, making it relatively easy to move around. It comes with a travel case, allowing you to take it with you if needed. However, it’s important to mention that the projector does not have an internal battery. Nevertheless, you can utilize an external portable battery to power the device on the go.
The projector features an outer shell that envelops the device from top to bottom, with three circular holes on the top housing the physical buttons. On one side, you will find a Power button with an LED indicator, and on the other side, a Return button. In the middle, there is a larger D-Pad-style set of buttons. The center button functions as the OK button, while the four arrow buttons on the sides are used for navigation. These arrow buttons can also be utilized for adjusting the volume (short press) or fast-forwarding/backward (long press).
The lens of the ETOE E3 Pro is slightly recessed within the projector’s body. ETOE claims to have employed a “fully-sealed dustproof optical engine” to prevent dust from entering the enclosure and compromising video quality. Adjacent to the lens, you will find a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor, which emits a light beam and measures the time it takes for the light to reach a surface.
The rear panel of the ETOE E3 Pro is notable because beneath the ports, there is a section labeled “TV” that can be opened to reveal an Android box connected via USB-C ports.
At the bottom of the projector, there are four feet with silicone covers to keep the device stable on surfaces. However, many users may prefer to mount the projector on a tripod, which is possible thanks to the presence of a mounting hole. While there are no ventilation holes on the sides, there are ample openings at the rear and front of the device, alongside the lens, to facilitate heat dissipation.
Speaking of ports, the projector offers a Power port, a USB-A port (2.0), an HDMI port, and an AUX port for audio systems. Additionally, the IR receiver for the remote control is situated between these ports. Through the plastic mesh, you can observe two speakers, with one facing forward and the other facing backward.
Installation and SoftwareÂ
Upon powering up the ETOE E3 Pro, the initial setup process involved selecting the language and pairing the remote control. Following that, I connected the projector to my Wi-Fi network, opting for the 5GHz radio band for enhanced performance since the device supports 802.11ac. Subsequently, I was prompted to sign into my Google account, which is necessary to fully utilize the projector’s features.
The software provided an option to install some recommended apps, but I decided to install the apps I needed at a later time. Finally, I gained access to the OS interface. The Android TV version on the ETOE E3 Pro is reasonably optimized, although I wouldn’t consider it lightweight. However, the 2GB of RAM should be sufficient for smooth operation. While navigating the Android TV interface (version 10), I didn’t experience any noticeable stutters. However, there is a slight delay between pressing a button on the remote and seeing the corresponding action reflected on the projected image.
During my movie-watching experience on streaming platforms like Prime and Netflix, I observed that when attempting to skip forward or go back to a specific scene, there was a delay of approximately one second before the action was registered. It required pressing the button a bit longer for the desired action to take effect. This performance can be considered average in this regard.
It is worth noting that I didn’t encounter any difficulties in accessing Netflix since it was already included among the pre-installed apps. Additionally, the projector’s menu allows for easy adjustment of various settings. While not overly complex, you can modify settings such as Image and Sound Mode, Aspect Ratio, Color Temperature, and Projection Settings (including zooming out).
Overall, the ETOE E3 Pro provides a satisfactory user interface experience, with Android TV offering a range of apps and convenient settings customization.Â
Automatic Adjustments
The ETOE E3 Pro boasts auto-focus and auto keystone correction features, and overall, they appear to work reasonably well. The ToF sensor, positioned on the front of the projector, contributes to the autofocus functionality. To test its performance, I moved the ETOE E3 Pro forward and backward to see if it could achieve a clear focus automatically. The auto-focus and auto keystone correction processes were not instantaneous but initiated within a few seconds. It seems that the beam of light is emitted periodically to adjust the focus.
However, the auto-focus and keystone correction may not work flawlessly when the projection angle is too large. While it occasionally managed to achieve accurate adjustments, there were instances where I had to make slight manual corrections to the image corners. ETOE claims that their automatic trapezoidal correction and autofocus feature can handle angles of up to ±40° to ensure optimal visual effects.
If the automatic adjustments are not satisfactory, the ETOE E3 Pro provides the option to make manual adjustments to both the autofocus and keystone correction settings. Notably, there is a dedicated button on the remote control for adjusting the autofocus (located below the Netflix button). This allows users to fine-tune the image to their personal preferences.
Image quality
The ETOE E3 Pro is a native 1920×1080 FHD projector, allowing for a bright and clear picture. It is capable of decoding 4K content, expanding its compatibility with high-resolution media. Moreover, the projector features built-in MEMC dynamic compensation, ensuring that even dynamic videos are displayed without blurring, with each frame clearly visible. The best viewing experience with this projector is achieved in a dark room, where the effects are enhanced.
In terms of brightness, the ETOE E3 Pro can reach up to 600 ANSI lumens. While this level of brightness requires some shade if you intend to use the projector during the day, it delivers impressive image quality in low-light conditions such as during the night. It’s important to note that in a dark room, the image appears great, but when the brightness is set to low, there may be areas of uneven brightness and darkness.
During my testing, I played a higher-resolution video from YouTube and found the images to be reasonably sharp. Considering the price point, the ETOE E3 Pro provides a decent viewing experience. Additionally, the projected image maintains color accuracy even when viewed from different angles, allowing for a comfortable viewing experience from any side of the room. However, it is essential to adjust the keystones properly to ensure optimal image alignment.
Although adjustments to contrast and sharpness are possible, I found that the Standard mode already provided well-balanced settings, so I decided to stick with the default configuration. It is worth mentioning that the other available modes may prove useful in specific situations, such as increasing brightness or reducing it based on individual preferences or environmental conditions.
ETOE E3 Pro: Conclusion
The ETOE E3 Pro is an affordable projector that aims to provide a cinematic experience to those with limited space for a large TV. Its compact size and lightweight design make it relatively easy to move around, although it may not be considered truly portable due to the absence of an internal battery.
The projector offers a native 1920×1080 FHD resolution, and with its brightness of 600 ANSI lumens, it delivers a vibrant and clear picture, particularly in a dark room. It also supports decoding of 4K content and features built-in MEMC dynamic compensation, ensuring smooth playback of dynamic videos without blurring.
The auto-focus and auto keystone correction functions work relatively well, although some manual adjustments may be necessary for optimal image alignment. The inclusion of an external Android box allows for flexibility, and users have the option to swap it for a different device if desired.
